This is going to be the first stage in a three part Flash Challenge series - Koi! Dragon Koi! Dragon. Let us embark on this classic tail of struggle and eventual triumph. đđđ And Iâm not just talking about my creative process here⊠we chose to create Koi flash not only to sharpen our Japanese-tattoo-skillz swords, but also to embark upon an epic drawing quest under the guidance of the ever vigilant Dave Knight.
Despite originating in China, Koi fish are an enduring symbol in the art and culture of Japan. When it comes to Japanese tattooing I feel confident saying that we have all seen a few koi tattoos swimming around out there - and theyâre popular for a reason.
Representing strength and resilience for their tireless journey, Koi was associated with the Japanese samurai class - braving the current to make it up the Yellow River, if they were to be caught along the way, facing their death bravely. They can also be the fulfilling of a destiny as only one koi makes it to the top of the waterfall to become a dragon! Pretty sweet reward.
