There are a lot of questions that can be asked when you are deciding to get a new tattoo - especially if it is your first. With that in mind I have done my best to compile a list of useful information about how best to go about booking a tattoo with me, and also what to expect during the process of getting your tattoo completed. If you have any additional questions feel free to reach out and ask.
What is the first step in the process to be tattooed?
We always begin with a consultation. While it is generally easier to navigate this conversation in person of a variety of reasons we can also do this online! Feel free to reach out about setting something up - info@sarahsavage.net
How old do you have to be to get tattooed?
18, no exceptions.
How much will my tattoo cost?
I charge an hourly rate of $200/hr. Prices can vary depending on size, placement, skin condition, and detail of design. While I can give you an estimate, the price is tallied per session by the hour to be paid in cash, with a deposit held until the final session.
How much does a consultation cost?
Consultations are always free. I do take a cash deposit at the consultation to book appointments, if you do not have a cash deposit (minimum $100) we will not be booking tattoo appointments in the consultation.
How does the deposit work?
A deposit is mandatory to be tattooed, and is held until the tattoo process is completed.
It is also very important to note that the deposit is nontransferable and nonrefundable. If you miss your appointment or fail to inform me 48hrs prior to our appointment time that you cannot make it, shop policy dictates that your deposit will be absorbed as a cancellation fee and you will have to pay a new deposit to resume booking appointments.
What if I know I want to get tattooed, but I don't know what I want to get?
It is important for you to decide what you want to have tattooed. If you're between a couple of ideas we can chat about them and decide which is the best route for us to proceed, however, if you have no idea what you want I suggest taking a bit more time to think about it. I do have predrawn tattoos (also known as flash) available if you are feeling adventurous! Check out my flash designs
What do you like to tattoo?
I love all things nerdy, 90s video games, movies, TV, animals, Japan, flora and fauna, and decorative designs to name a few...
Can you draw me more than one design for me to choose from?
The short answer is no. I pour my heart, experience, and above all time into every drawing I do to create something special for each client - this involves a lot of trust.. and while minor adjustments are understandable, an entire redraw will require in a new deposit.
When can I see my drawing?
I will have your drawing ready for our appointment! Please be very clear on what you expect to see composition and style wise during our consultation - of course minor changes are acceptable the day of, but a full redraw will result in a rescheduling of your appointment and a $100 drawing fee to cover my time. Part of custom tattooing is the fun of seeing your idea interpreted through the lens of a specific artist, if you like what you see in my portfolio your design will reflect the style you see there. If you do not see what you are looking for within my portfolio there is a good chance you should consider commissioning another artist for the piece, and that’s ok too. :)
Can I take a photo of the drawing?
Please no photos of the artwork without consent.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require a minimum 48 hrs notice via email to cancel or change your tattoo appointment - I do not accept cancellations via DM, IM, carrier pigeon, or through any form of grape vine... it is very inconvenient to me and my schedule if not properly informed, you will automatically lose your deposit if you no show/no email, and will be required to drop off a new (and usually larger) deposit in person. Be aware that your promptness also effects how quickly I can rebook our appointment! :)
Can I bring friends with me?
Depending on how busy the shop is, you may have one friend with you while you are being tattooed but they cannot enter the tattooing space for health and safety reasons- please be aware that our shop is 18+ and I will not allow minors to accompany you.
What should I do to prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Please arrive for your appointment on time, clean, sober, hydrated, fed, and well rested. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area we will be tattooing, and consider ease of redress once you are bandaged at the completion of your session - think zip up hoodie and stretchy pants. Also be aware that tattoo ink will stain clothing so don't wear your favourite white silk top. Feel free to bring a beverage with a sealing lid, a small snack, and any entertainment you mind require such as a portable device with Netflix or some tunes to distract you - don’t forget headphones!
